A man who spiked treats with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he managed.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor explained objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his worries.

She said the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that point," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.

Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
